Dodgeball Winnipeg Competitive Open Division

Dodgeball Winnipeg is proud to announce that for the upcoming winter season, the Thursday Competitive Men’s division is adapting and will become the Thursday Competitive Open division!

Dodgeball in Winnipeg has improved drastically over the years and DW is committed to supporting that growth. We want to continue to provide spaces for new players to join the sport and develop. We also want to ensure we are providing opportunities for growth for players who are competing at the Provincial, National, and World level.

The Competitive Open division will allow any same gendered team to join the division. It will continue to work on a tiering system as the current Men’s Competitive division currently operates. Offering a tiered, Competitive Open Division will allow teams an opportunity to challenge themselves with a level of competition that best suits their teams growth and development.

The Thursday Competitive Women’s division will continue to be offered in its current format. DW is committed to supporting the growth of Women’s Dodgeball in Manitoba. DW would not be making this change if it meant the Women’s division would see a reduction in involvement. We are proud to be one of the only leagues in the country to offer a dedicated women’s foam league. We will continue to provide a division that focuses on women’s dodgeball and offers the opportunity for bringing more women into the sport. Maintaining the women’s division allows an accessible entry into dodgeball for women who would like to try it out and see if it’s right for them while offering current female players a competitive division using the women’s format.

The change will allow for:

  1. Providing the team freedom to choose the right environment to align with the team’s goals
  2. Providing a competitive environment that allows all players and teams to be pushed and challenged at their level which will allow them to grow and develop.
  3. Giving teams something to keep working for, keep being motivated to achieve. If that is working towards winning your open tier, moving up to the next tier, winning the women’s division, developing and having a better record than the previous season. Every team has a goal and by providing more opportunities and more choices, we’re allowing more teams to create attainable goals and work towards them.

As dodgeball continues to grow in our province and the level of dodgeball continues to increase, DW is committed to responding to the needs of the teams and seeking ways to provide a competitive environment for all players and teams. Further information regarding scheduling and logistics will be shared when registration opens.

We are proud of all our teams here at DW and are excited for the growth in our sport!
