Private Events

Are you interested in having a private dodgeball event?

Dodgeball Winnipeg is happy to help you host a team practice, team-building day, corporate event, or even just a fun night with your friends!

We will supply the balls, 1-2 scoreboards, and 1-2 staff members depending on what you need.

The cost is $60 for a 1-hour practice (we bring the equipment and venue for you, but do not supply any referees. A staff member will stay on-site for insurance purposes but not be involved in the game).

The cost is $75/hour for any event where we provide you with 2 referees (exhibition matches, corporate events, team-building, etc).

We currently have 7:30-8:30 Tuesdays at East Elmwood CC available, Thursday evenings at Winakwa from 9:00-11:00, and can also schedule other times so long as we have enough notice to book a venue for you. Please contact us at info@dodgeballwinnipeg.com to book your event today!

Women’s league – what it is and how it will work

If you are new to the dodgeball scene, you may have noticed that Winnipeg has a lot of committed women in our community. There are four all-female teams I know of in Winnipeg, and they are all pretty good but it seems to me that it’s unfair that we have a demand from women for an all-female league and they can’t get one.

That all changes now. In consultation with some of the most prominent female players, we at Dodgeball Winnipeg have come up with a format for women to play together and work together to build up their skills. The general consensus is the format will be just like our co-ed draft league:

Women sign up as individuals, teams are made based on stats to keep things even, and at the end of every season teams are dissolved and remade based on a snake-style for stats.

How would that look? Here’s an example, let’s say we have 24 women, and they are ranked from “1” (highest stats) to “24” (lowest stats) the teams would be as follows:

Team A: 1/8/9/16/17/24

Team B: 2/7/10/15/18/23

Team C: 3/6/11/14/19/22

Team D: 4/5/12/13/20/21

This keeps the playing field even, and allows for better competition as the women playing will be constantly playing with and against new people each season, learning from one another and growing their skills together.

The women’s league will be starting in January and I hope to see everyone there!

Introducing a draft league for Winnipeg!

After high school, the choices for adults to play dodgeball in Winnipeg have been quite limited. A few amateur tournaments, one coed rec league, and that’s about it. Until now, you needed to know enough men and women to put together your own team and register. Dodgeball Winnipeg was founded to change all that.

Starting with the draft league in November, anyone over the age of 18 has the ability to sign up by themselves and play. Teams will be created from the pool of players who register, and the season will run for 8 games. The following season, teams will be made once again from the new pool of players, and players will be assigned to teams that balance out skill levels. Everyone is encouraged to come out after their games and spend some time together at a local restaurant or bar.

In 2016, there will be a co-ed league, men’s league and women’s league added, where people sign up a team of their own friends.

We will be using 7″ balls which are easier for everyone to throw, travel faster, and sting less than the 8″ balls people are used to seeing in Winnipeg. In addition, we will be using the WDBF rules which, after a few events, we have found encourage better game play, less arguments, and more fun since you do not need big hands to throw the balls well.
