Gym etiquette

Hello everyone, with the weather warming up we need to remind everyone:

  1. The shoes you wear in the gym CANNOT be the ones you wore outside the gym. Even when it is dry out, your shoes still bring dust and dirt in with them and it creates an unsafe/unclean court if gym shoes are worn outdoors.
  2. The only drink allowed in the gym is water. Energy drinks are not permitted in the gym. Ever.  If you absolutely must drink coffee, red bull, cola, etc. you must do so in the hallway or outdoors.

We have a commitment to our gymnasiums that we will keep them clean and safe, and that requires everyone to do their part and follow the rules.

Thank you!

Schedules are rolling out

We are currently working round the clock to get this season’s schedules out. We’d like to answer a few FAQs about this process:

Q: When will the schedules be completed?

A: As soon as we have all the necessary information (registration completed, rosters submitted, etc) we begin working on schedules. Some nights are easier to handle (Wednesdays we had 8 teams so there is no need to work on divisions, we got the schedules out right away. Sundays has 27 teams that need to be sorted, and sometimes the format has to be reworked to accommodate an odd number of teams, so it takes longer)

Q: Can we please be scheduled at a specific gym at a specific time?

A: When you registered at the beginning of the season, if you contacted us to be the team in your division that pays for their time slot ($75 for the season) then yes you can. If your team did not, we will not be able to accommodate special requests.

Q: One of our game times does not work for us, can we change it?

A: Sorry, we cannot. We have a lot of scheduling that happens behind the scenes with regards to referees (all of our refs also play on teams) so scheduling is not a fluid process that can be changed after it is completed.

Q: Why does it take so long to release schedules?

A: To keep our referees sane, we only schedule them 2-3 hours at a time, and most of them also play on teams on the nights they play. Scheduling most nights is a complicated process that takes 1-2 hours per night organized. In addition, each division requires each player to be programmed in to their team and division before scheduling can start, which takes 1-2 minutes per player. This means that Sundays alone take ~40 hours of labour to finish rosters and ~20 hours of labour to schedule.

Thank you very much for reading this. We are currently working on Sundays and will have Tuesdays and Thursdays completed shortly after Sundays are done. Thank you!

Draft happens today!

The draft is happening today! Stay tuned to find out what team you ended up on.

Also a big congratulations to Phil Chan and his team Stop Drop’n Swole for winning the Chris Glass Memorial Cup. Phil also went on to win the Sunday Gold championship with his team Drill House Monstars 30 minutes later. Way to go, Phil!

Drop-in off-season passes are now for sale!

Hello everyone! We are releasing off-season drop-in passes for just $40 to all 7!

Once you buy the pass, you will get your name added to the list as if you pre-registered for all the drop-ins. So long as you show up within 20 minutes of the start time, that spot is yours! After 20 minutes, if the drop-in is sold out, that spot will become available to the public to purchase. If you know you will be more than 20 minutes late and wish to reserve your spot, you can simply email the league to let us know you will be there and be more than 20 minutes late.

Simply send your payment to payments@dodgeballwinnipeg.com OR purchase here: http://dodgeballwinnipeg.com/produ…/drop-in-off-season-pass/

Draft is now open to the public!

We have just opened up registration for our draft league to the public!

Check it out here: http://dodgeballwinnipeg.com/draft-registration/

What is draft? It’s a competitive division where we keep track of players’ hits, catches, and rounds won. The highest scoring players get to pick their own team the next season in a snake-style draft. This makes the teams more fair, since captains are always looking to pick the best players available to them. Scores are usually close, games are intense, and it is a great way to meet the people of the community.

We recommend draft to players who can already throw or catch really well, or have a decent amount of dodgeball experience. You can keep track of your progress by looking at your stats from one season to the next! It is a great way to develop as a player.

If you have never played a throwing sport such as baseball/softball/football, and have not played dodgeball, we recommend you play a season or two in our team leagues to get a feel for the game before joining draft.

Registration is now open!

As we approach the middle of the season, it is time to start thinking about next season!

Things that will stay the same:

  1. Spring league starts April 2nd and will run 10 weeks just like Winter league did.
  2. The cost will remain the same, $495 for a team and $60 for draft during early bird (February 6th to February 28th)
  3. Current draft members will have 15 days to reserve their spot before the remaining spots open to the public
  4. We will offer team league games Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Things that have changed:

  1. A new e-mail address will be created for payments – payments@dodgeballwinnipeg.com
  2. We have a lot more gym space reserved
  3. Due to lack of interest, individual player registrations have been discontinued (click here for details)
  4. The update to the WDBF rulebook has restricted rosters to 12 players
  5. We will return to the normal style of submitting a registration form then payment so we can avoid the issue of teams sending payments but then sitting on their registration form for days/weeks and then being unable to play on the day they prefer
  6. Your registration form will not be accepted until your payment is completed
  7. We will not make exceptions for early bird pricing. You have a full month to register and pay on time, we suggest you get your team together for a windup/drinks and collect the fees from them during the month of February so you can get in before early bird ends
  8. Currently we only allow one free roster change. For this season we will allow a second roster change for $50 before game 5
  9. We will only allow one team per day to reserve a time slot for $75, so register early!
