Draft Division Updates

Dodgeball Winnipeg initially started as a draft league and even as the league expanded in the early days, draft always remained a staple division of Dodgeball Winnipeg. Draft was a major stepping stone for both of us in terms of transitioning from recreational play to competitive play and has allowed us to play alongside many different players that we may not have had the opportunity to play with otherwise. Throughout his time as the owner of Dodgeball Winnipeg, Stacy Huen took great pride in the draft division and made it feel very special for everyone who played in it. In honour of Stacy and as a thank you for everything Stacy has done for dodgeball in our city, the Draft Championship is being renamed to the Huen Cup effective this winter 2022 season and onward. The Huen Cup will be up for grabs in 2 weeks on March 27th at 6pm at EECC and will be streamed on DodgeballTTV.

In addition, there are a couple of other new draft related incentives we are offering:

Draft Referral Credits: We will be offering draft referral credits if you refer a player who has never played in our draft division before. Have the new player put your full name in the “How did you hear about Dodgeball Winnipeg?” box when they sign up and pay and you will receive a $20 Dodgeball Winnipeg credit. These credits will only be able to be used in the Shop on the website as they will be attached to your email address (they will not work when paying by etransfer). There will be no cap on the number of referrals credits you can get (so you can refer as many friends as you want) and the credits will not expire.

Stat Keeper Draws: At the end of the Winter 2022 Season, we will be doing one giant stat keeper and ball retriever draw for 2 free draft spots (1 for a stat keeper and 1 for a ball retriever). The free draft spots will be able to be used for one of the next two draft seasons (summer 2022 and fall 2022).

Draft registration closes this coming Sunday, March 20 at 11:59pm so make sure to sign up before then! For more information on what the draft division is about, see: https://dodgeballwinnipeg.com/draft-league/

As of March 1, 2022, the vaccination requirement to enter public gymnasiums is being lifted by the province.

In line with the province and after consulting with similar organizing bodies, Dodgeball Winnipeg will not be mandating vaccinations in order to participate in the league once the mandate is lifted by the Province. Going forward, we will continue to follow any public health orders put in place by the Province, the City of Winnipeg, or any requirements put in place by our gym partners.

Thank you for working with us during this unprecedented time.

A Message from Dodgeball Winnipeg

By now, most of you have probably heard the news that Dodgeball Winnipeg is now under the ownership of Colton Bertrand and Jordan Ferris. We both started playing in Dodgeball Winnipeg in 2016 and 2017 and our passion for the sport is something that has grown ever since. We have both made a countless number of friendships throughout these last few years all thanks to this sport and as a result have really grown to value the community surrounding dodgeball. We couldn’t be more excited to continue building on the amazing foundation that was laid by Stacy Huen, founder of Dodgeball Winnipeg, and look forward to growing the sport and its community at both the competitive and recreational levels.

We would like to sincerely thank Stacy for everything he has done for the sport of dodgeball in our city and beyond. Stacy was at the forefront of legitimizing the sport in Manitoba and fostered an incredible community that has resulted in many relationships that have reached further than just dodgeball. We are incredibly grateful to be given the opportunity to continue building on this path you paved. Stacy, thank you for everything you have done for the sport and the community.

Cheers to the future of dodgeball. See you all on the court.
